Coming Up Roses, 1975 Welsh mare, 2009 ARIA Otstanding Lesson Pony, 2007 ARIA Circle of Honor. Owned by Shari Patterson-Blayloc. Rosie does lessons in Western, Speed events, and Hunter Under Saddle. Rosie is the first pony most students get to ride. She is quiet and doesn’t mind helping her rider out while they learn something new. Rosie still likes to do the occasional jump or two and can really get going when doing the barrels.
Reilly, 1998 Quarter Horse gelding, 2009 ARIA Outstanding Lesson Horse, 2007 ARIA Circle of Honor. Owned by Shari Patterson-Blayloc. Reilly does lesson in Western, Hunter Under Saddle, Speed events, Dressage, and Jumping. Reilly is the first horse we put the taller kids or the adults on when they learn to ride. He is super steady in the ring and on the trail. His smooth gaits make learning to sit the trot, or cantering for the first time easy. Reilly is a real gem and we wish we had more like him.
Carmella, 1996 Quarter Pony mare, 2009 ARIA Outstanding Lesson Pony, Owned by the Mirko Family. Carmella does lessons in Western, Hunter Under Saddle, and Speed events. Carmella is a great beginner pony and a wonderful trail mount. She enjoys being groomed and likes to go for a ride but would rather not jump.
Past Ponies
We have had the chance to own several nice POAs over the years, that for some reason or another we had to sell. We don’t want to leave them out so here they are. If you currently own any of these ponies, send us an update on them and we’ll post a current photo.
No Plain Jane, 1990 Red Leopard mare. Jane was a pony on loan from the Browns for Kari to ride and show starting in 1994. It took a couple years but they became a team to beat in speed events, and she had awesome lead changes. This mare was one of a kind as she would try her heart out for you once she trusted you. Jane and I started out friendship with her kicking at me and then trying to buck me off, but by the end she saved me from serious injury when we got tangled up in a gate and I ended up underneath her. Jane was shown in Halter, English events, Costume, and Speed events by Kari (the junior pony was shown in Western) until the fall of 1997 when she was sold to Michigan.
Peppermint Bon Bon, 1987 Leopard mare. Pepper was bought for Kari at the Spring POA sale back in 1991. It took us a while to get things together as she was a broke show pony and I wasn’t a broke show rider. We did best in Reining, Jumping, and Speed events, but I also showed her in Trail, and Rail classes. After a month of work, Pepper was Reserve International Reining champion in 1997! She also placed in Freestyle Reining, and had a pilot error in Sr. Reining that prevented another ribbon. Pepper and Kari also won State High Points and multiple championships at the 4H shows. Pepper was sold in the fall of 1997 to a wonderful family that still owns her.
Straw Razzberry, 1997 Bay Leopard gelding. Razz was bought as Kari’s JFPC mount as a yearling in 1998, when a friend of ours said to buy him quick before someone else snapped him up. It didn’t take us long to find out that this little guy was very smart and there wasn’t a gate that he couldn’t undo or a fence that he couldn’t jump, crawl through, or roll under. Razz was a breeze to train and quickly was showing in Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, Trail, Halter, and Pleasure Driving. At the 2000 International Futurity, he was Reserve Champion in Pleasure Driving and also placed in Trail (He started out as 5th overall but a judging error dropped him to 10th). Razz is the last full brother to some wonderful champion ponies like, Ebony Straw, Haulin Oates (both deceased), Straw Mickey, Straw Terminator, and Prime Time. Razz was sold to an 8 year old at the sale in 2000 and now is somewhere on the East coast.
CELs Miners Slider, 1999 Fewspot gelding. We got Slider as a 2 year old stallion at the Fall sale in 2001, after wanting a dark colored mare. He had been well started on the ground, so he was very easy to start riding over the holiday break. Having a stallion at a lesson barn wasn’t a good idea, even though he was a perfect gentleman, so he was gelded in 2001. After a few rides, he was shown in Trail, Western Pleasure, and Hunter Under Saddle. Slider won trail and placed in the other 2 events his first under saddle show. I took him to summer camp as my trail horse and he was so good that I learned how to shoot a bow and arrow off his back! When he was sold in the Winter of 2002, he was undefeated in 19 & Over Trail, as well as going Western, English, and pulling a cart. He went to a family for trail riding and possibly to run barrels and poles.
Charge It, 1971 Black gelding. Sugar was the dream pony that started us off in horse ownership. He was a super lesson horse, teaching lots of different kids and adults how to ride. Sugar was great at jumping and speed events and while not the prettiest pony on the rail, he tried hard. We owned Sugar from October 1988 until 1994, when he was sold to a lesson barn. Sadly, Sugar is no longer with us as he died a few months short of his 25th birthday in February 1996. We still miss him and his pictures are proudly hanging on our walls even after all this time.
